Find one with cancer. See if your 'analogies' add up.
Lame.
I am sorry that you feel this way about things.
"It could also be that they are thinking about smoking, instead of thinking about what is being said to them." I love this..... someone who must never have smoked, explaining what smokers are thinking 'all the time'.
Ignorance is dangerous. Try it before you spew your 'expert' opinion about it.
As with the rest of the comments, I really feel this to be a completely untrue, and inaccurate article. And with so many logic holes in this article it will, in fact, dumb down people looking for REAL facts about Marijuana. Please take this article down.
So let's talk about gay marriage, why on earth would that get more attention? Um.. Civil rights movement for one, but its pretty hard to apply that same courtroom precedent to a controlled substance.Religion is more taboo than sexuality and that is a shame, but it works out quite well for the proponents of gay marriage. Pretty certain that the US is not full of zealots or we would still be able to pray before football games and have the 10 commandments in our courtrooms without debate.
The substance makes them slow, as in less aware. while under the influence of any mind altering substance, a humans perceptions and reactions are modified including many legal substances . However, the length of time the effects of marijuana last are short compared to many other substances.
As for searching for identity, I can say that is true for some people. But some people buy a BMW for the same reason, it is illogical because people in countries where marijuana is either legal or loosely regulated people still smoke it. Certainly anything that is prohibited will draw some attention because of it, but with that logic marijuana should be legalized because those people would stop smoking it right?
Although stress may be a normal function of humanity so is dying of a rattle snake bite, but that doesn't mean it is wrong to get treatment. Stress does horrible things to your mind and body, and the reason we have entertainment venues and recreational activities of all kinds is because our bodies realize that the stress is harmful.
Finally there are many reasons why marijuana has opponents of legalization, everything from this miss-informed post to the failed drug war, to racist stereotypes, and even the all mighty dollar. Hemp is a wonderful and extremely useful substance, but it would probably destroy the current timber industry. Al Capone and the gangsters of the prohibition era showed us how lucrative it is to deal in the black market, and with a black market nearly 60 years old there are many rich and powerful people with much influence that would have their entire business model fail if the substance was legal. The real reason to vote for the end of marijuana prohibition is not so that some 15 year old and his drop out buddies can go behind the school and get high, its because we are a FREE nation. At least we used to be, prohibition is not freedom, it is quite the opposite.
Wow, I just read this little gem of knowledge..... Even in the context of this article you ARE wrong. For one, nothing affects everyone the same way. And two, there is no way to know how everyone is affected by any particular thing.
This is ignorance. Pure and simple. This whole article is pure ignorance and like I said in my previous post, it is dangerous.
Ignorance \Ig"no*rance\, n. [F., fr. L. ignorantia.]
1. The condition of being ignorant; the want of knowledge in general, or in relation to a particular subject; the state of being uneducated or uninformed.
2. (Theol.) A willful neglect or refusal to acquire knowledge which one may acquire and it is his duty to have. --Book of Common Prayer."
I could go on and continue ripping this little article apart, but I hope that won't be necessary. I hope people can see this for what it is, pure ignorance.
I'll break it down into a much smaller piece.
A) You are biased and uninformed.
B) You are a hypocrite--how can you rave about the laziness of "potheads" when you yourself were too lazy to provide anything other than anecdotal evidence to support your thesis?
The primary problem here, obviously, is that you just don't know what you're talking about.
I recall a scene from "The 40 Year Old Virgin," where Steve Carrell's character is attempting to describe what a breast feels like, having never had the experience himself. His more worldly co-workers recognize his ignorance immediately--much like your more worldly readers have recognized yours.
How lazy was Carl Sagan? How slovenly is Bill Maher? Does Bill Murray live in squalor? Is Michael Bloomberg content to let bills go unpaid? Was Bob Marley too lazy to stand up for his rights? Does Steven King lack the wit to identify subtlety? Do you think that Michael Phelps, winner off 14 gold medals, is seeking his identity at the bottom of a bong?
Anyway, it was a nice straw-man "argument" designed as flame-bait. I hope your idiotic ramblings are driving up your AdSense revenue.
let those who smoke enjoy there freedom to smoke,
Freedom or slavery, you can mix the two...
